Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
Led by Hall of Famer Harry Watson in both goals and points during the 1948-49 regular season, the Toronto Maple Leafs battled the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup semifinals before defeating the Detroit Red Wings in four straight games in the final. This was the first time a team in the NHL won three consecutive Stanley Cups. We offer a sheet team-signed by the circa-1949 Leafs featuring 5 deceased HOFers, encapsulated as "Authentic Auto" by PSA/DNA, along with a Harold "Baldy" Cotton signed index card also encapsulated as "Authentic Auto" by PSA/DNA (while the sheet is signed by players who were all on the 1948-49 Stanley Cup champion Leafs, Bill Johnson has also signed, and he played just a single game for the club in 1949-50). At 4" x 6", with signatures on both sides, the signers include Harry Watson, Bob Dawes, Ray Timgren, Gus Mortsen, Garth Boesch, Turk Broda, Hap Day and Howie Meeker on one side, and Vic Lynn, Bill Johnson, Fleming Mackell, Ted Kennedy and Sid Smith on the other, with all signatures written in blue ballpoint. There are a few tiny pin-sized holes along the top border with minor discolouration around each hole. We should also note scratch marks to the PSA/DNA holder. The Cotton index card is 3" x 5" with a hole punched for binder insertion. Baldy has signed in blue ballpoint, with no issues for the signature (his name is also handwritten above in pencil).
