This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/4/2024
77 cards larger than the set from the previous season, the 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee release rang in at 341 total cards, the biggest set released by the Canadian manufacturer up to that point and came at an important time in hockey history as the WHA entered the professional climate with its first season of play that same year. On the auction block here is this near-complete set of 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee with the grouping here largely remaining in the overall condition range of VG-EX for three quarters of it while around a quarter of the included cards have elastic marks and creasing and fall into the range of GOOD for their efforts. Missing just card #190, the checklist, for completion, the key cards include those of 6-Checklist (FR to G - light elastic mark and heavily marked), 8-Dionne (VG-EX to EX - 2nd year card - small ding to bottom right corner), 14-Clarke (G to VG - surface wear), 19-Checklist (FR to G - heavily marked and creased), 58-Orr IA (VG to VG-EX - miscut on the reverse), 59-Lafleur (VG-EX to EX - 2nd year card - slight scuff at top border), 129-Orr (VG-EX to EX - light surface wear and ding to top left corner), 145-Dryden (EX to EX-MT - 2nd year card - small print line along bottom border), 227-Orr/Park AS (VG-EX to EX - small ding at top left), 228-Hull AS (EX-MT to NM), 247-Dryden AS (FR to G - creased and wax residue), 334-Checklist (PR to F - heavily marked, stained and corner damage) and 336-Hull WHA (EX to EX-MT). Also including a starter set of the Team Canada insert card that is missing the likes of Yvan Cournoyer, Phil and Tony Esposito, Frank Mahovlich and Serge Savard, the group does include EX to EX-MT examples of both Ken Dryden and Paul Henderson. Finally, also included with the set is a full set of the insert player crests that includes all twenty-four (24) examples that are all detached plus eleven (11) extras that are once again all detached.
