Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
Featuring an attractive design (at least in this writer’s eyes) as well as the names of players who had once dominated the era of the Original Six and some of those that would become the star power of the upcoming decade, O-Pee-Chee’s 1969-70 assembly continues to be popular in the hobby and is found here in near-complete form with 208 of the 231 cards found within the checklist. Missing 23-Green and 88-Favell RC for completion, the cards making up the near-complete assembly are found to be in the overall fairly uniform condition range of VG throughout, largely affected by light corner wear throughout its entirety while some cards, including 10-Beliveau, 12-Hall, 20-Berenson, 27-Hodge, 30-P. Esposito, 37-Gilbert, 42-Ratelle, 51-Keon, 54-Ullman, 62-Mahovlich, 82, 86, 98, 99, 108, 125 and 130, have had their "stamps" affixed over their reverses. Including off condition examples of stars such as Henri Richard (creased), Norm Ullman (paper loss on the reverse), Jean Beliveau (stamp on reverse) and Gerry Cheevers (POOR), the ket cards include the likes of 4-Savard RC (G to VG - small dings to three of four corners), 24-Orr (VG-EX to EX - stamp on reverse - left border and corner wear), 31-Checklist (FR to G - creased and heavily marked), 61-Howe (VG to VG-EX - stamp on back - light corner wear), 70-Hull (VG to VG-EX - has stamp on back - wear to right border and top left corner), 89-Parent (FR to G - multiple creases), 132-Checklist (FR to G - Topps card - marked and creased), 138-T. Esposito RC (VG to VG-EX - ding at top right corner), 180-Plante (PR to FR - multiple large creases), 189-Sawchuk (VG to VG-EX - top right corner ding), NN-Howe Mr. Hockey (PR to FR - multiple large creases), 209-Orr Norris (VG to VG-EX - corner wear), 212-Orr AS (PR to FR - water stain over the front), 215-Howe AS (PR to FR - worn out and miscut), 216-Hull AS (VG to VG-EX - slightly off-center and top left corner wear), 220-Beliveau AS (G to VG - slightly off-center - surface wear and top left corner ding) and 231-Stanley Cup (FR to G - small scuff on the reverse plus corner and border wear). Additionally, the near-complete set also comes with a complete set of the mini-card insert albums that have most of the "4 in 1" cards pasted in that show wear and are low-to-mid grade condition.
