The first of two back-to-back wrestling card sets issued by Parkhurst, this 1955-56 ensemble features 119 of the 121 cards starring mat stars of the day. A contingent largely falling towards the bottom end of the grading scale with seventy-three (73) cards classified as being low-grade examples, forty-one (41) of those displaying with heavy and/or multiple creases while many also sport surface wear as well. Also including eleven (11) cards with a crease with many other them also sporting surface wear, there are twenty-one (21) cards with surface wear/defects and/or stains. Missing cards #20 and #35 for a complete set, card #56 has paper loss on the back, cards #70 and #99 have glue and paper residue on its reverse and cards #102, #107 and #115 all have writings over their reverses. Of the remaining fifty (50) cards, a mix of mostly GOOD to VG offerings, the group also includes duplicates of cards #19, #69, #87 and #109. With this set more difficult to track down than its 1954-55 predecessor, don't miss out on this noteworthy near-complete assembly.
For the key cards, those of 72-Maiava and 97-Nagurski are in the range of G to VG shape while those of 16-Rougeau, 85-Carnera and 121-Gardenia show creases. For the rest of the key cards, card #95 of Gorgeous George has surface wear while those of 1-Valois, 11-Big Heart, 39-Jonathan, 44-Selassi & Little Beaver and 54-Rocca are all affected by heavy creases.
