Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
The bench boss for 1019 National Hockey League games over 14 seasons split between Montreal, Toronto, Boston and New Jersey, Pat Burns would lead the Devils to a Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, finally getting his coveted Stanley Cup ring. Getting his start as a scout with the Hull Olympiques, the 2014 HHOF inductee would earn his first head coaching role in 1984-85 with Hull, leading them to a QMJHL crown in 1986. Offered here, we present this stick used by Burns while serving as the bench boss of the Devils in the early-2000s. A Gears 9900 model twig with a shaved handle, "Burns" is stamped over the topside of the shaft (the "B" is no longer present due to a chip in the graphics) and the stick retains its original white tape job around the handle/knob. Having had its tape around the blade removed to facilitate Burns' black marker ink signature that displays without issue over the forehand side, Burns has added an inscription reading "Oct - 9 - 2110" alongside the signature in matching ink. Displaying just light signs of use, some minor marks and abrasions appear over the shaft, lower shaft and heel areas.
