Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
Somewhat overlooked when compared to the immense popularity of 1952 Topps, the 1952 Bowman Baseball release remains an appealing vintage option and is a more affordable way to collect the players of the '52 season. Seeing the three (3) time defending World Series champion New York Yankees win their fourth (4th) consecutive Fall Classic crown at years end over their cross town rival, the Brooklyn Dodgers, offered here is this lot of twelve (12) 1952 Bowman Baseball cards that have all been graded by PSA or SGC to the tune of NM 7 marks or better. Including the likes of 12-Max Surkont RC (PSA NM 7), 15-Same Mele (PSA NM 7), 42-Johnny Wyrostek (PSA NM 7), 48-Vern Bickford (PSA NM 7), 55-Ken Raffensberger (PSA NM 7), Irv Noren (PSA NM 7), 114-Frank Hiller RC (PSA NM 7), 125-Howie Fox (PSA NM 7), 150-Herman Wehmeier (PSA NM 7), 167-Bob Avila (SGC NM+ 7.5), 185-Eddie Stewart (PSA NM 7) and 213-Monte Kennedy (PSA NM 7). All housed in overall good condition holders, also included with the lot is an envelope that features artwork commemorating Baltimore's return to Major League Baseball after 52 years without it. Also displaying a stamped signature from inaugural season manager Jimmy Dykes over the front and having been addressed/stamped, a stamp commemorating the centennial of baseball has been affixed over the upper right hand corner. The envelope remains in overall good condition with light wear and some ripping over the opening on the reverse while a post card of the National Brewing Company of Baltimore in Maryland is housed in the interior, never having been filed out and remaining in overall good condition despite some paper/glue residue on the front of it.
