Leading all scorers with 12 points accumulated in just 8 tournament games, the 1984 Canada Cup would be the third incarnation of the event, with Wayne Gretzky matching his previous tournament total from 1981. Team Canada would defeat Sweden in a best-of-three final, with this it’s second of four Canada Cup tournament victories. Held before the start of the 1984-85 NHL season that would see Gretzky and his Oilers achieve a mark of back-to-back Stanley Cup championships, offered here is this stick used by Gretzky during the 1984 Canada Cup. A Titan made offering that sports a "W. Gretzky" stamp over the bottom portion of the shaft, "Canada Cup" and "Titan" graphics are found over the shaft on both the forehand and backhand sides. Retaining its original tape white tape job over the handle/knob that sports discoloration and soiling from use, the blade tape has long since been removed. Displaying a factory production stamp reading "AOUT 17 1984" on the underside of the shaft, a "WG" pattern code has been penned in pencil on the underside of the heel. Acquired by the father of our consignor, who was the players parking lot attendant at the Montreal Forum, after one (1) of the two (2) Team Canada contests held there at the start of round robin play on either September 1st (vs West Germany) or September 3rd (vs the United States), the stick shows good use with numerous marks and abrasions throughout the blade, heel and length of the shaft while also showing some light chipping to the top edge of the blade and tape residue over the bottom edge of the blade as well.
