Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
A splendid opportunity to secure a unique O-Pee-Chee near-complete set is offered here, with a whopping 41 big (5” by 7”) cards being rookie cards, joined by numerous big names. Missing card #96 of Mel Hill for completion, the group is paced by key images including those of 2-Broda (G to VG - light bend that shows on the reverse), 6-Apps (GOOD - creases at the left side and top right corner), 20-Jackson (VG-EX to EX - corner wear), 35-Smith (EX to EX-MT - slight corner wear), 59-Conacher RC (G to VG - markings over the reverse), 68-Abel RC (GOOD - markings over the reverse), 75-Thompson (G to VG - markings on the reverse), 85-Pratt (GOOD - markings on the reverse plus a crease), 86-Hextall (G to VG - markings on the reverse and corner wear), 94-Dumart RC (G to VG - markings on the reverse and corner wear), 95-Clapper (G to VG - markings on the reverse and corner wear), 97-Brimsek (FR to G - markings on the reverse plus a crease and corner wear), 98-Cowley RC (GOOD - markings on the reverse and small crease at the top left), 99-Bauer RC ("Authentic" - large amount of ink throughout the reverse, ink on the front and a crease) and 100-Shore (GOOD - markings over the reverse plus corner crease and spot on his head). Of note, it is extremely important for accuracy that we mention that cards #18 and #'s 51 to 100 all sport writing over their reverses that affects their technical grade, with the worst of it seen on the example of card #99 picturing David Bauer as is mentioned above. For the rest of the set, cards #1 to #50 are all seen as being in the overall condition range of VG-EX to EX for their efforts while card #18 and #'s 51 to 100 are seen as being in the overall average condition of VG, with once again all having writing penned over their upper reverses. Additionally, also included with the lot is a group of seven (7) cards from the 1938-39 Quaker Oats Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens photo card release. All having been trimmed a considerable amount, included within the seven (7) examples are the photos of Toe Blake, Babe Siebert, Paul Haynes, Stew Evans, Walter Buswell, Bob Davidson and lastly, Paul Drouin.
