A product of Ilves hockey club in his native country of Finland, Ari Haanpaa would be drafted 83rd overall by the New York Islanders at the 1984 NHL Entry Draft and go on to play a total of sixty (60) games over the course of three (3) seasons with the club between 1985 and 1988. Offered here, we present this Islanders jersey worn by Haanpaa during the 1985-86 season when he recorded seven (7) points in eighteen (18) games. Made by CCM, both a brand label that displays a heavily faded size "50" designation in black ballpoint pen ink and a born-on date label reading "85 01" are affixed to the inner collar while a CCM logo patch is sewn on over the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with an Islanders team crest that has been administered in a layered tackle twill style, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Haanpaa's number "25" in dual layer white-over-orange tackle twill numerals while "Haanpaa" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Of note, there is evidence of at least one (1), maybe (2) former nameplates found over the upper reverse on both the interior and exterior of the piece. Showing good pilling on the interior as well as a customized fight strap with the ribbon style replaced with the snap variation, the jersey exhibits excellent game-wear via stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, board burns over both sleeves, small fabric pulls throughout, a team repair over the left sleeve, coloured board paint transfers over the front and both sleeves, unrepaired cuts/holes over both sleeves and finally, some minor spot stains throughout.
