Known for his devastating hip check and playing his junior hockey as a member of the Charlottetown Islanders before signing on as an undrafted free agent with the California Golden Seals, Hilliard Graves would go on to play a total of 556 games over the course of his National Hockey League career, suiting up for the likes of Golden Seals as well as Atlanta, Vancouver and Winnipeg before retiring after the 1979-80 season. Offered here, we present this photo-matched Atlanta Flames jersey worn by Graves during the era of mid-1970s. A heavyweight durene knit garment made by Rawlings, a brand label displaying a size "46" designation is affixed to the inner collar and a garter style fight strap is found on the interior. Decorated over the front with a Flames team crest in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso of the garment have been accented with Graves' number "17" in dual layer white-over-yellow numerals. Of note, no nameplate exists over the upper reverse and after close look it appears as though one was never applied for television games of the era. Displaying excellent game-wear throughout its entirety via stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, light board burns over both sleeves and right shoulder, red coloured board paint transfers through the front crest, a cluster of team repairs under the numbers of the right sleeve and a couple of spot stains throughout, the interior of the jersey also shows good pilling in each sleeve. Regarding the photo-match, an image of Graves is matched to a stick marks over the lower front, in the bottom yellow stripe of the left sleeve and over the left shoulder.
