Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
The key card in the O-Pee-Chee company's 1986-87 hockey card effort is the first cardboard appearance of Patrick Roy, a 20-year old Quebec City native who grew up a fan of the Nordiques and who keyed the Montreal Canadiens return to Stanley Cup glory in the spring of 1986. Patrick's heroics earned him his first of three Conn Smythe Trophy awards as playoff MVP and came a year after he had backstopped the Sherbrooke Canadiens to the Calder Cup, emblematic of American Hockey League supremacy. This 1986-87 O-Pee-Chee Roy rookie has been signed, with the card graded MINT 9 OC and the autograph GEM MINT 10 by PSA/DNA. Off-centered on the front and reverse as specified by the "OC" qualifier, the card has been signed in blue marker, with the signature flawless. This high-grade example with perfect signature definitely sets it apart from the average Roy rookie.
