Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025

Widely considered as one of the top three players throughout the history of the fabled Montreal Canadiens along with Rocket Richard and Jean Beliveau, Guy Lafleur enjoyed tremendous success during his Habs tenure, capturing five Stanley Cup championships, three Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Memorials and the Conn Smythe. Enjoying a National Hockey League career that spanned a total of 1126 games and inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988, Lafleur would come out of retirement in the late-1980s, suiting up with the New York Rangers and Quebec Nordiques during that time before retiring again for good in 1991. Offered here, we present this banner from the date that Lafleur played the final game of his National Hockey League career on March 31st, 1991 against his old team, the Montreal Canadiens. Measuring out to a massive 10' x 4 1/2' in size and made of a paper stock that feels sort of plasticky to the touch, the banner is remarkably light and displays the date of his final NHL/Nordiques contest, a 4-1 win over the Habs. Also displaying a notation reading "Homage A Guy Lafleur - De Quebec A Quebec" (Tribute To Guy Lafleur - From Quebec To Quebec", a reference to how he started his junior career in the provincial capital and took his last strides there as well. Sporting both the Nordiques logo and various sponsorship logos from places/brands such as O'Keefe, the Government of Quebec and Petro-Canada plus others, the banner, originally from the famed Colisee in Quebec City, remains in overall excellent condition for its effort with no obtrusive damage to tell you about except for some minor toning in places from age. Additionally, it retails its original string and wooden rod at the top for the purpose of hanging. A unique piece, don't miss out on this one!
