Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
To both the delight of new American hockey viewers and the dismay of knowledgeable Canadian hockey fans, the NHL began using special pucks fitted with electronic sensors during the mid-1990s, with these “Fox Trax” examples seeing use during televised contests on Fox. Embedded with electronics and sensors, the Official Bettman-endorsed Inglasco models would show a blue halo during TV broadcasts that would change to a red “comet tail” when shot by a player. Four sensors can be viewed on each side, with another 12 devices mounted around the outer edge of the puck. We have a pair that originate from the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Sporting matching 2016 WCOH logos on one side with all eight competing nations/continents encircling the logo, the reverse of each has a matching logo, with a design within the perimeter. One puck has this design in grey, while the other sports the same design in red. The pair remain in excellent condition with no obtrusive marks, chips or wear to the logos.
