A product of the Hamilton Steelhawks and Niagara Falls Thunder in the Ontario Hockey League that would be drafted 3rd overall by the Detroit Red Wings at the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, Keith Primeau would go on to play a total of fifteen (15) seasons in the National Hockey League, suiting up for 909 games over that time with the likes of Detroit, Hartford, Carolina and Philadelphia. Playing in a pair of NHL All-Star Games during his career and winning gold with Team Canada at the 1997 IIHF World Championships, offered here is this photo-matched Hartford Whalers jersey worn by Primeau during the 1996-97 season, his lone campaign with the club and the last for the Whalers in Hartford before their relocation to Carolina. Made by Starter, a size label reading "56-R" with Primeau's number "55" penned to it in partially washed out black marker ink is found affixed to the inner collar along with additional "Center Ice Authentic Collection" and Starter/NHL tags as well. Having had both the Starter and NHL shield logos embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Whalers team crest that has been administered in a stacked tackle twill style. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Primeau's number "55" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals, "Primeau" has been spelt out in single layer navytackle twill letters that have been sewn on over the affixed matching nameplate that is in place at the top of the reverse. Of note, the nameplate has yellowed over time, due to the adhesive used to hold it down before stitching. Exhibiting excellent game-wear throughout the entirety of the piece and sporting a Whalers team stamp from Custom Crafted inside the reverse hem that denotes the piece as an "Official Hartford Whalers 2nd Set 1996-97 Season" offering, heavy amounts of stick marks, board burns, unrepaired cuts/holes, fabric pulls, pills and the odd coloured board paint transfer are found throughout the entirety of the body and sleeves, with the latter having had inserts added near the cuffs to widen them. Also featuring good pilling on the interior, heaviest behind the front crest, and the original fight strap, the jersey has been photo-matched with Getty Image #53131579 (February 28th, 1997 vs Chicago) to stick marks above the first "5" on the left left, left shoulder and left breast as well as to the extra little bit of blue stitching at the bottom of the first "5" on the right sleeve.
