Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
No matter how many times you see this iconic hockey image, the story behind this famous playoff postgame handshake between a bloodied Maurice Richard and battered and bruised Boston goalie Sugar Jim Henry comes freshly to mind. Knocked out earlier in the game, Richard returned semi-conscious to score the series-winning goal in Game 7 of the 1952 semi-finals. Offered here, we present this framed 8" x 10" copy of the famed photo that has been signed by both of the featured combatants. Signed by Maurice over the bottom portion of the image with a later-in-life blue marker ink signature that displays well despite some fading from age, the signature includes his famed number "9" alongside it while Henry has signed over his mid section with a flawless gold marker ink autograph that includes his number "1". Displayed under a grey coloured matte and sporting a gold plaque at the bottom that reads "Jim Henry & Maurice Richard - April 8th, 1952", the photo is housed in a simple black frame that remains in overall excellent condition, with full dimensions measuring roughly 15 1/2" x 17 1/2". Having had a Frozen Pond COA taped to the back of the frame, the piece will also come accompanied by a JSA Auction LOA.
While all of our frames are thoroughly and safely packaged for shipping, due to the size and/or weight, and dependent upon the shipping company, we should mention that damage may occur in transit. Please note that as such, we are not responsible for any damage to frames that occurs during shipping.
