Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
The most successful team in the American Hockey League when they folded, the Cleveland Barons would play in the league between 1937 and 1973 and won ten (10) division titles and nine (9) Calder Cup championships, which, although the team had been defunct for over three (3) decades, remained a record until 2009. Sporting an alumni list that includes names such as Johnny Bower, Andy Bathgate, Fred Glover, Bill and Bud Cook, Babe Pratt and numerous others, offered here, we present this AHL Cleveland Barons jersey that dates from the mid-to-late-1960s and is attributed to Cecil Hoekstra. A durene knit construction offering that is void of any tagging, remains of the once in place "Cleveland Sport Goods Co." label are still present inside the collar. Measuring out to roughly a size "48" and decorated over the front with a Barons team crest that includes splendidly done chain-stitched embroidered details, the sleeves and verso have been styled with the number "19" in single layer blue twill numerals. Void of a fight strap on the interior, research shows that the number was donned by Hoekstra during a three (3) year period between 1965 and 1968 when this style of jersey was utilized. Displaying with good game-wear, stick marks, unrepaired holes and red coloured paint transfers are found over the front and both sleeves while additional stick marks and red paint transfers are seen over the reverse as well. Also showing fabric runs over both sleeves and some light foxing like staining over the reverse, the interior of the jersey displays with some light pilling.
