Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
The most successful team in the American Hockey League when they folded, the Cleveland Barons would play in the league between 1937 and 1973 and won ten (10) division titles and nine (9) Calder Cup championships, which, although the team had been defunct for over three (3) decades, remained a record until 2009. Sporting an alumni list that includes names such as Johnny Bower, Andy Bathgate, Fred Glover, Bill and Bud Cook, Babe Pratt and numerous others, offered here, and hailing originally from the Cook Family, is this circa 1942-43 AHL Cleveland Barons jersey attributed to have been worn by Louis Trudel. A full wool construction offering in blue that features alternating red and white stripes over the shoulders, a label reading "The Cleveland Sport Goods Co. – Coach Bilt Athletic Equipment – The Arena 3725 Euclid Ave. Cleveland Ohio" is affixed inside the reverse hem along with a washing instructions label and a size tag reading "44 Short". Styled over the front and reverse with the number "8" in dual layer red-over-white stacked numerals done in a canvas like material, the jersey reamins in overall fantastic condition despite its age, displaying with some minor discolouration and small spot stains throughout while team repairs totaling out to ten (10) appear over the body and sleeves. Accompanied by a Cook Family LOA that was included with the jersey for its original sale, the jersey appears to be photo-matched to press photos of Trudel taken during that season which seem to show a match to the team repair to the right of the "8" over the front as well as to the scratch in the in the red layer of the same "8". Additionally, it seems that a different press photo from the same season shows a match to the repair in the white stripe at the left side of the collar.
