Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
On January 1st 2016, in front of a crowd of 67,246 enthusiastic fans at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA, and an audience of millions of viewer’s worldwide, two long-time “Original Six” arch-rivals faced each other in the eighth annual Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, with the Montreal Canadiens defeating the Boston Bruins 5-1. From the 2016 NHL Winter Classic, offered here is this Boston Bruins jersey donned by Landon Ferraro during the first period of play. Made by Reebok and inspired by the first jersey they wore during their inaugural season of 1924-25, a lone size "58" label is affixed to the inner collar while the crests of the NHL and Reebok adorn the front and reverse necklines respectively. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a circa 1920s style Bruins team crest that has been done in layered felt and chenille style, the all-important 2016 NHL Winter Classic event patch has been added over the right shoulder. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Ferraro's number "29" in white felt numerals, "Ferraro" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Retaining its fight strap on the interior, the jersey, worn for just a single period of play, remains in overall excellent condition with no discernable game-wear but does show a blue mark in the "9" on the reverse. Having had a MeiGray tag numbered "M06988" sewn inside the reverse hem, according to the company's population report, the jersey is a "Black - Winter Classic 1/1/16 at Gillette Stadium - NHL-MGG Set Worn Period 1 - 1/1/16 at Gillette Stadium" example. A matching MeiGray LOA will accompany the piece.
