A cousin of Hockey Hall of Famer and six (6) time Stanley Cup champion Mark Messier, Mitch Messier would play his college hockey with the Michigan State University Spartans before being drafted 56th overall by the Minnesota North Stars at the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Going on to play a total of twenty (20) games in the National Hockey League over the course of four (4) seasons, offered here is this IHL Kalamazoo Wings jersey worn by Messier during the 1988-89 season. Made by CCM and measuring out to roughly a size "52", a worn and partially sewn over Maska Air-Knit label is affixed to the inner collar while a CCM "small block" style logo is embroidered into the reverse hem. Also having had a "BJ Sports" logo embroidered into the reverse hem as well, the front of the garment has been decorated with a Wings team crest that has been administered in a layered tackle twill style while the franchise's 15th anniversary patch has been added over the right breast. Accented over the left breast with a sewn on piece of fabric that has had an alternate captain's "A" screened on over it, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Messier's number "12" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals. Having had "Messier" screened on in single layer white letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse, it is important to note that evidence of at least one (1) former nameplate can be observed on the interior as well. Displaying heavy amounts of game-wear throughout its entirety, things like stick marks, board burns, unrepaired holes, coloured board paint transfers and sweat staining are present along with good pilling on the interior and salting in the snaps of the fight strap.
