Combining to play a total of 172 in the orange, white and black colours of the Philadelphia Flyers in their careers, the likes of Kevin McCarthy and Norm Barnes would both be drafted by the club from the "City of Brotherly Love" in 1973 and 1977 respectively. Offered here, we present this jersey worn by McCarthy during the 1978-79 season that was recycled for use by Barnes during his rookie year of 1979-80. A heavyweight mesh with knit inserts construction example by W.A. Goodman and Son, a brand label displaying a size "M" designation is affixed to the inner collar alongside another one from the Bill Vanderburg Company as well. Displaying evidence of the Barry Ashbee memorial patch on the left shoulder, the front of the jersey is decorated with a familiar Flyers team crest that displays with embroidered details throughout. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Barnes' number "25" in dual layer tackle twill numerals, "Barnes" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse while evidence of the former "McCarthy" one exists underneath in the form of small unrepaired holes caused by removal and threads still stuck in the mesh. Retaining its original garter style fight strap on the interior of the piece, the jersey shows game-wear via stick marks throughout the front, reverse and both sleeves as well as numerous board burns, coloured paint transfers and small unrepaired holes over both sleeves also. Additionally, more wear is observed via an unrepaired cut over the lower front and pilling on the interior. Having been photo-matched to both players that wore it, Getty Image #82821602 (undated) of McCarthy is matched to the placement of the "2" on the left sleeve as well as to the placement/spacing of the twill layers making up the number while Getty Image #53121407 (undated) of Barnes, taken in the lead up to the 1979-80 season and the same photo that was used on his team-issued post card is matched to the loose white thread at the bottom of the crest and to the black stick mark under the "5" of the right sleeve.
