A product of the Medicine Hat Tigers from the WCHL who was drafted by both the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (104th overall in 1974) and Michigan Stags of the World Hockey Association (78th overall in 1974), Eddie Johnstone would choose the route of the NHL after a lone season in the WHA and go on to play a total of 426 games in the league with the likes of New York and the Detroit Red Wings. An NHL All-Star in 1981 and ranked No. 65 all-time out of the 901 New York Rangers who had played during the team's first 82 seasons of play, offered here is this Rangers jersey worn by Johnstone in the period of the early-1980s, circa the 1981-82 or 1982-83 seasons of play. A heavyweight mesh construction offering made by Stall and Dean, tagging from team supplier Gerry Cosby as well as size "50" and washing instruction labels are all affixed to the inner collar. Sporting a small loop style fight strap on the interior of the jersey, the front is decorated with "New York" going diagonally down the chest in the familiar dual layer drop-shadow red-over-white tackle twill letters while Johnstone's number "17" appears in matching style over the sleeves and verso. Having had "Johnstone" spelt out in dual layer drop-shadow red-over-white tackle twill letters across the top of the back, the garment shows excellent game-wear via stick marks and board burns over the front and both sleeves while a few small stick marks grace the reverse as well. Also showing wear through team repairs on both sleeves, coloured board paint transfers over the right sleeve and minor spot stains throughout, the interior of the jersey also shows pilling that is worth noting for accuracy
