Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Popular with collectors due in part to the fact that the ninety-eight (98) cards checklist includes many early Hockey Hall of Fame members making appearances, the 1910-11 Imperial Tobacco C60 lacrosse set is one (1) of three (3) lacrosse based releases issued by the company and is a nearly identical copy to the C59 set. Offered here, we present this starter set of Imperial Tobacco's C60 lacrosse release that includes seventy-nine (79) of the ninety-eight (98) cards in the checklist and is paced by a pair of recently graded PSA offerings. All having been pasted into a scrapbook at one time many moons ago and then professionally removed from said book, it should be noted that the grades listed for the cards below are done so without taking into consideration the fact that they were all removed from a scrapbook. Additionally, in our opinion, the backs of the cards appear mostly nice and clean with no clear evidence exposing the fact that they were in a scrapbook previously except for some backs which have browning while cards #'d 4, 46, 49, 51, 52, 53, 64, 91 have paper loss or paper residues over their reverses that are worth mentioning for accuracy. Furthermore, card #79 has staining/glue residue on its reverse and the two (2) cards graded by PSA are also examples that were removed from the same scrapbook as the others. Missing the likes of; 5, 7, 19, 23, 27, 31, 36, 39, 41, 57, 60, 67, 68-Ions, 71, 78, 81, 84-J. Malone and 88 for completion, the pair of fresh PSA slabbed offerings includes the examples of Hockey Hall of Fame inductees Paddy Moran and Newsy Lalonde, who have garnered marks of VG-EX 4 and GOOD 2 respectively while being housed in excellent condition holders. For the key cards, those featuring hockey players include the examples of 15-Currie (VG to VG-EX - light surface wrinkles), 16-Gorman (VG to VG-EX - surface wear), 18-Hutton (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear), 20-Powers (G to VG - wear to right border), 22-Butterworth (FR to G - back damage), 26-McMillan (VG to VG-EX - light corner wear), 32-Degan (PR to FR - multiple large creases), 38-Allen (G to VG - tiny surface wrinkles), 48-McKerrow (VG to VG-EX - wear to the top border), 85-J. Malone (FR to G - creased) and 90-Cattarinch (PR to F - damaged at the top right) while card #42 pictures Boxing Hall of Famer Tommy Burns over the front with the card itself presenting around FR to G due to damage at the top right. Also including examples of Lacrosse Hall of Famers such as 56-Gifford (VG to VG-EX - bottom left corner damage), 58-G. Spring (VG to VG-EX - light surface wrinkles), 59-C. Spring (VG to VG-EX - light surface wrinkles), 65-Feeney (VG-EX to EX - 60-40 centering) and 66-J. Gifford (VG to VG-EX - left border wear). For the rest of the set, the breakdown of condition is as follows; five (5) cards seen as being VG-EX to EX, twenty-five (25) cards seen around VG to VG-EX, seventeen (17) cards in the range of G to VG, three (3) cards around FR to G, six (6) cards in the scope of PR to F and finally, three (3) cards in the vicinity of PR.
