One of the best players to come out of the Czech Republic and a key part of the squad that led the country to a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, Martin Straka would be drafted 19th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1992 and go on to play a total of 954 games in the National Hockey League with the likes of Pittsburgh, Ottawa, New York, Florida, Los Angeles and New York. Having registered a total of 717 points in the NHL, offered here is this Penguins jersey donned by Straka during the 1998-99 season in which he put up better than point-per-game numbers for the first time in his career. A mesh construction offering made by Starter, a Starter/NHL Center Ice Authentic Collection label is affixed to the inner collar while a twill swatch displaying a size of "52-R" is sewn underneath. Having had Straka's number "82" penned to the brand label in black marker ink that has faded from numerous washings, the logos of both Starter and the NHL have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Penguins team crest that features both textured and embroidered details, the distinguished alternate captain's "A" appears over the left breast and the sleeves as well as the verso have been styled with Straka's number "82" in dual layer black-over-yellow tackle twill numerals. Having had "Straka" spelt out in matching style letter across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse and retaining its fight strap on the interior, the jersey displays excellent game-wear throughout including heavy amounts of dark stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves as well as board burns, coloured board paint transfers and small unrepaired holes over both sleeves. Also showing a bit of pilling around the collar and a repair to the reinforcement stitching of the right elbow, the jersey is accompanied by Penguins LOA that denotes the jersey as a "Set 1" example and a MeiGray COR.
