A member of the Russian and Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame, with his 28 Olympic games-played a record among Russian national team players, Darius Kasparaitis enjoyed an especially lengthy NHL career, with numerous seasons spent with the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders while also enjoying stints with the Colorado Avalanche and New York Rangers as well. A three-time Olympic medalist and a veteran of 863 National Hockey League game, offered here is this Pittsburgh Penguins jersey worn by Kasparaitis during the 1996-97 season in both the regular season and playoffs. A heavyweight knit garment made by Starter, brand and "NHL Center Ice Authentic Collection" labeling is affixed to the inner collar above a sewn in twill swatch that displays a "52-R" size designation that has had Kasparaitis' number "11" penned to it in black marker ink. Having had both the Starter and NHL shield logos embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Penguins team crest that features embroidered details, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Kasparaitis' number "11" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals while "Kasparaitis" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Retaining a damaged fight strap on the interior of the piece, the garment shows game-wear through things such as board burns, unrepaired holes and stick marks throughout the body and sleeves while pilling is seen around the collar and on the interior. Of note, it is worth mentioning for accuracy that the the letters and numbers on the sleeve and verso have yellowed over time.
