Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Introduced by the American Tobacco Company in 1910, the 1911 Turkey Red Cabinet T3 baseball cabinet cards were designed for “preferred” tobacco customers and available as premiums in exchange for coupons from three companies: Turkey Red Cigarettes, Old Mill Cigarettes, or Fez Cigarettes. With most of the era's top stars featured in the checklist, including a plethora of Hall of Famers such as Mordecai Brown, Ty Cobb, Nap Lajoie, Tris Speaker, Cy Young, Frank “Home Run” Baker and Walter Johnson, also available were a number of generic scenes revealing ballplayers in glorified "action" scenes. Offered here, we present this copy of card #44 from the set, one of the action cards, titled "Trying to Catch Him Napping". Displaying beautiful imagery over the front of players from the Cincinnati Reds and New York Giants, the large oversized 5 3/4" x 8" card features a checklist back and has been graded to the tune of a GOOD 2 assessment after its recent inspection by PSA. Displaying corner wear/missing pieces, a small liquid stain on the front surface and toning on the reverse, the card is housed in a PSA holder that is found to be in overall excellent condition despite small scratches and scuffs over both sides.
