Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
An interesting and thought provoking offering comes available here, once worn by a pair of players that combined to wear the colours of the Pittsburgh Penguins for a total of 416 games in the National Hockey League, offered here is this Penguins jersey that was first worn late in the 1983-84 season by Gary Rissling that was then recycled into the 1984-85 pre-season campaign for use by Moe Mantha. A heavyweight mesh construction offering made by CCM that is void of any labeling affixed to the inner collar, the jersey measures out to roughly a size "46" for its effort and has had a CCM* patch sewn on over the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a rubberized screened-on team crest, the sleeves and verso of the jersey have been accented with the number "20" in matching style dual layer black-over-white rubberized screened-on numerals. Sporting "Mantha" spelt out in rubberized screened-on single layer black letters across the affixed sewn on yellow mesh nameplate, it should be noted that evidence of the former Rissling one can be found on the interior in the form of loose threads stuck in the mesh. Displaying a ribbon style fight strap on the interior, the jersey shows game-wear via stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves as well as board burns and coloured board paint transfer marks over both sleeves as well. With light pilling found on the interior and some yellow colour bleed from washing in the white areas, research shows, as well as a photo provided by our consigner, that Rissling wore the jersey for at least one (1) game at the end of the 1983-84 season on April 4th, 1984 against the New York Islanders, a year in which is it known that the Penguins predominantly wore jerseys made by Sandow SK.
