Established as the Detroit Cougars in 1926 before rebranding as the Falcons for a couple of seasons, "Hockeytown" finally settled on the "Red Wings" as their team name beginning with the 1932-33 season, with the club going on to enjoy a rich history up to this point that has included eleven (11) Stanley Cup championships and over sixty (60+) players who that have donned their famed red and white colours that have then gone on to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Soon to hit their 100th birthday, offered here is this collection of Red Wings team issued photos totaling 50+ as well as a complete set of the 1971 Detroit Red Wings Pro Star Portraits that totals eleven (11) and includes Gordie Howe. Starting with the team-issued images, dating between 1969-70 and 1973-74, the lot includes a team-set totaling eighteen (18) from 1973-74 that features the likes of Alex Delvecchio, Guy Charron, Marcel Dionne, Mickey Redmond, Red Berenson and others, the images are full colour offerings measuring slightly smaller than 10 3/4" x 8 1/2", all the photos are in overall good condition, showing light toning and in some cases foxing/stains over the edges on the reverse as well as light edge and corner wear. For the rest of the photos, included are twenty-one (21) images from the 1970-71 season that includes names such as Delvechhio, Bergman, Berenson, Redmond and others, the photos are black and white offerings all measuring roughly around 8" x 10" with some slightly larger and some smaller. With most sporting a headshot and posed action image as well as their names, the Detroit logo and the year of "1970-71", the photos are in generally good shape but show some wear throughout the set via things like edge/corner wear, small folds/creases, light toning and surface scratches. Also including four (4) photos showing just small head shot images of eight (8) players (including Marcel Dionne from 1973), the last images are found via a group of ten (10) from 1969-70 that measure around 8" x 10" and includes the likes of Baun, Brewer, Connelly, Unger and others, seven (7) of the photos are glued on backings while the other three (3) are not. These photos show the heaviest wear of the whole lot, including defects to the edges and corners plus scratching to the surfaces.
For the Pro Star Portraits from 1971 that depict Gordie Howe and his Red Wings teammates, the 7 1/2" x 10" images were done by artist Nicholas Volpe and are missing the coupons originally attached to the bottom of each image. All in excellent condition overall with no unsightly flaws to make note of, the group includes Howe, Delvecchio, Mahovlich, Rolfe, Unger, Connelly, Edwards, Rutherford, Webster, Bergman and MacGregor.
