The only NHL player in history to be born in Taiwan, as his father an American serviceman was stationed there, Rod Langway was selected in both the NHL and WHA drafts of 1977, and played for both Montreal and Washington throughout his HOF career. A six-time All-Star, Langway earned back-to-back Norris trophies in the early-1980s (1982-83 and 1983-84) as a member of the Washington Capitals. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002, offered here is this Capitals jersey worn by Langway during the 1987-88 season. Made by CCM, a Maska Air-Knit label displaying a faded size "54" designation is affixed to the inner collar while a CCM "small block" style logo has been embroidered into the reverse hem. Having had "Washington" embroidered into the front of the jersey with "Capitals" applied below in single layer tackle twill letters, a row of alternating blue or white tackle twill stars observed under the collar. Featuring more white and blue tackle will stars going down both sleeves, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Langway's number "5" in dual layer white-over-blue tackle twill letters while "Langway" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Featuring the distinguished captain's "C" over the left breast, the jersey displays excellent game-wear via heavy amounts of stick marks over the lower front and both sleeve, both sleeves also show light board burns while the just the left one sports a light red board paint transfer mark and a small hole. Also showing light pilling on the inside of both sleeves and sweat staining around the collar, additional board burns and stick marks are present over both shoulders.
