Forgoing his senior season with the University of Wisconsin Badgers to sign a three-year entry level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2011-12, Jake Gardiner spent parts of eight seasons in Ontario, and also represented the US internationally. Originally drafted 17th overall by the Anaheim Ducks at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, offered here is this Maple Leafs third jersey worn by Gardiner during his rookie season of 2011-12. Made by Reebok, a lone size "58" label is affixed to the inner collar while the crests of both the NHL and Reebok respectively have been added over the front and reverse necklines respectively. A classic throwback style offering based of Toronto's jerseys that were worn by the team between 1967 and 1970, the tie-neck style specimen is decorated over the front with a felt material vintage style Maple Leafs team crest that has had "Toronto Maple Leafs" embroidered into it. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Gardiner's number "51" in single layer white felt numbers, "Gardiner" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Having had a Leafs team tag denoting the jersey as a "2011-12 Season Official Game-Worn Jersey" specimen, the piece shows game-wear via an unrepaired cut over the backside of the right sleeve and board burns over the right shoulder and sleeve. Additionally, there is pilling on the interior as well and the jersey comes accompanied by a Leafs COA.
Regarding the photo-match, the jersey is matched with Getty Image #133863418 (November 19th, 2011 vs Washington) to the board burns over the left shoulder and loose thread at the bottom of the "5" on the right sleeve.
