Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024

A veteran of 119 National Hockey League games who donned the colours of the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders before embarking on a professional career in Europe, Gilles Thibaudeau would sign on as a free agent with the Canadiens in the summer of 1984 and play a total of fifty-eight (58) games with the club over parts of three (3) seasons. Offered here, we present this Canadiens jersey donned by Thibaudeau circa 1987, likely during the 1987-88 pre-season. Made by CCM, a Maska Ultrafil label displaying a faded size "52" designation in ballpoint pen ink is affixed to the inner collar while the CCM logo has been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with Montreal's famed "CH" team crest in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Thibaudeau's number "28", worn by him during his nine (9) game stint of 1986-87 and the 1987-88 pre-season before switching to number "29", in dual layer blue-over-red tackle twill numerals. Having had "Thibaudeau" spelt out in single layer blue twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse, the jersey shows just light game-wear via some light stick marks over the front and both sleeves as well as some minor pilling on the interior as well as around the collar. Of note, heavy spot staining is seen throughout the jersey that is worth noting for accuracy.
