Martin Straka has signed his New York Rangers game-worn jersey from “Mark Messier Night” at Madison Square Garden on January 12, 2006. The Rangers raised Messier’s iconic No. 11 to MSG’s rafters during a ceremony prior to the Blueshirts’ 5-4 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers, the team Mark won the Stanley Cup with five times before he delivered Lord Stanley’s silver chalice to Broadway when the Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks in a seven-game final in 1994. Straka’s signed game-worn jersey comes with two LOAs, one for the jersey itself and the other for the bold black marker autograph he placed on the “8” of his No. 82 on the back of the jersey. The jersey LOA states the details of the evening and that this jersey was worn by Straka during the second period of the game. The No. “11” commemorative patch with the date of the Messier Night game is sewn on the right shoulder and Straka’s surname is spelled out in red and white double twill letters sewn directly onto the jersey, the same material as the numbers on the back and both sleeves, as well as the cascading “Rangers” across the front. The size 54 flag tag in the back of the neck was sewn over by stitching from the surname letters and “2” is handwritten in blue marker on the fight strap to denote the period that Straka wore this jersey during the game. A “2005-2006 Season” patch is sewn to the left of the MeiGray 2004-2005 Season patch from that unplayed season, which displays registry No. C07266, which corresponds to the jersey’s LOA. According to the MeiGray population report the jersey is a "Blue - Mark Messier Night w/ #11 Patch - Worn During 2nd Period on Messier Night 1/12/06 (Team Set)". With only one period’s game use, obviously light wear includes a board burn on the right sleeve and blue paint transfer on the left sleeve.
