Enjoying a career that spanned across a total of five (5) decades in which he established himself as one of the best that the game of baseball had ever seen as well as one of the game's greatest showmen, Satchel Page would spend most of his time pitching in the Negro Leagues with numerous franchises before finally making his Major League debut as a member of the Cleveland Indians in 1948 at the age of 42. Helping Cleveland to a World Series title that same year and playing in a pair of MLB All-Star Games (1952 and 1953), Paige would throw his last professional pitch on June 21, 1966, for the Peninsula Grays of the Carolina League, two (2) weeks shy of his sixtieth birthday. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971, offered here is this matted display of Paige that features a cut signature along the bottom. Measuring 12" x 18" in total, a black and white image of Paige cut from a book or magazine picturing him during his time with the Cleveland Indians is found at the top of the piece with the tape holding it to the matte over the reverse having dried out and causing the image to come loose. For the autograph, signed over a 3" x 5" index card that has been affixed to reverse with tape, the black ballpoint pen ink signature displays without issue to speak of. All remaining in excellent condition overall with just some light wear observed to the edges and corners of the matte itself, a JSA Auction LOA will accompany the piece.
