Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
One of the NHL’s legendary innovators as the first to regularly wear and develop the goal mask, Jacques Plante was also instrumental in helping to evolve the goaltending position itself, with his forays from the crease chasing loose pucks now commonplace amongst netminders. One of the most desirable of all Original Six signatures, we offer a Plante signed envelope from 1979. The signature appears as "Mrs Jacques Plante" as the envelope is addressed to his wife in Florida, with separation between the "Mrs" and "Jacques", making this an ideal candidate for a cut signature, with the black ink signature remaining completely bold and utterly flawless. The envelope was issued by the Hilton Hotel of Philadelphia, with the room number handwritten of "114". The postal stamp is dated Feb 4, 1979 (this is also handwritten), with the original stamp intact. The right portion of the envelope has an original pen and ink foliage drawing by Jacques Plante who was a very accomplished visual artist. Plante passed away in 1986. A PSA/DNA sticker has been affixed to the bottom left corner, with a matching COA to accompany.
