Developing in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League with the famous Soo Greyhounds before his professional career, Doug Patey would be drafted by both the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals (73rd overall) and World Hockey Association's Phoenix Roadrunners (66th overall) in 1976 and would go on to play a total of forty-five (45) games in the NHL as well as 153 games in the AHL over the course of his professional career. Offered here from his days as a member of the Hershey Bears is this collection of Bears AHL memorabilia including a circa 1978 game-worn jersey, jacket, porcelain figurine, license plate, Booster Club plate plus drinking glass and photo.
Starting with the jersey, a mesh construction offering with knit inserts over the sleeves and hem that is void of any labeling on the interior, the garment, likely made by Rawlings based on research and worn by Patey during either the 1977-78 or 1978-79 seasons or play measures out to roughly a size "50" for its effort. Decorated over the front with a Bears team crest that has been administered in layered tackle twill with chain-stitched details, the sleeves and verso have been accented with the number "10", worn by Patey in both of his years with the club according to research, in single layer white tackle twill numerals. Sporting a loop style fight strap on the interior, the jersey displays with excellent game-wear including team repairs over the lower reverse, left shoulder and left sleeve, stick marks throughout the body and both sleeves, board burns over both sleeves, unrepaired holes in both sleeves, pilling at each cuff, coloured board paint transfer marks over both sleeves and the right shoulder, sweat staining around the collar and pilling on the interior. Additionally, there is fraying in areas around the edge of the crest.
For the jacket, a lightweight nylon construction piece with snap closure style buttons down the front, the collared garment displays a Bears logo screened on over the left breast and a size "M" label from manufacture College Lane affixed to the inner collar. With pull string tighteners around the hem, the jacket remains in overall good condition with evidence of wear present via some small light staining throughout the body and sleeves while remaining free of any holes or cuts.
Also including a porcelain Hershey Bears figurine that dates to Patey's time with the club and displays his number "10" over the sleeves and verso as well as "Patey" over the upper reverse, the hockey playing figurine is presented in a white Hershey jersey with "Hershey" painted on over the front of it. Stick in hand and skates on both feet, the figurine stands a total of roughly 11" high and is found to be in excellent condition overall with no cracks or breaks in any form that we can see.
Finally, the rest of the lot includes a Hershey Bears Booster Club 30th Anniversary pewter plate and drinking glass that sport club logos from the 1977-78 season over their fronts/faces. Both remaining in overall good condition with some light surface wear/scratches present over both that are worthy of mention for accuracy, the rest of the lot includes a simple Hershey Bears logo license plate that shows some rusting and surface wear and a 1977-78 Bears team photo that shows some edge, surface and corner wear.
