Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Developing in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League with the famous Soo Greyhounds before his professional career, Doug Patey would be drafted by both the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals (73rd overall) and World Hockey Association's Phoenix Roadrunners (66th overall) in 1976 and would go on to play a total of forty-five (45) games in the NHL as well as 153 games in the AHL over the course of his professional career. Offered here from his developmental days as a member of the Beehives, the Jr. B affiliate of the Chicago Black Hakws, we present this collection of Patey's memorabilia from his time in the OPJAHL including a game-worn and gloves, goal pucks (3), drinking glass and reunion program, ticket and photograph.
Starting with the jersey, a heavy weight durene knit offering that is void of tagging on the interior, the classic tie-neck style garment measures out to roughly a modern size "42" for its effort. In the general design of the sweaters worn by the NHL's Black Hawks, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Dixie Beehives team crest over the front that features embroidered details throughout while matching crossed tomahawk "D" patches are in place atop of both shoulders. Accented over the sleeves and verso with the number "12" in single layer black tackle twill numerals, the jersey, void of any fight strap on the interior, shows with heavy staining throughout as well as game-wear in the form of stick marks throughout the body and both sleeves, unrepaired holes, red board paint transfer marks over the right elbow, soiling over both elbows, board burns and slash marks over both sleeves, thinning of the material at both armpits, fabric runs throughout, a team repair over the lower reverse and rubbing/pilling on the interior.
For the gloves, a vintage pair of Cooper made gauntlets in Chicago/Dixie's red, white and black colourway, the number "6" is stenciled in white over the cuff of the right glove while what seems to be either an "S" or an "8" is found over the left cuff. Exhibiting overall nice game-wear with only light wear to the butterscotch coloured palms that remain free from any holes or major rubbing, the outside of both gloves show numerous marks, abrasions, frays and scuffs worth pointing out for accuracy while the insides show some light sweat staining and soiling from use while the Cooper logo patches sewn on display with either good wear or are missing entirely.
For the goal pucks, all three (3) of the included biscuits show OHA logos over their reverses while one (1) shows a Beehives logo and the other two (2) show logos for "Sports Distributors of Canada Limited". All showing various surface and edge wear as well as other marks and abrasions from game use, each has had white tape added around the edge with hand written notations pertaining to the goals they came from penned in black ballpoint pen ink that displays largely without issue other than some fading and which is mostly legible on two (2) of the three (3) examples.
Finally, rounding out the lot is a drinking glass displaying a "Dixie Beehives - 25th Anniversary" logo that remains in good condition with no cracks and only light signs of use as well as a program, ticket and photogrpah from the club's 2024 reunion.
