Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
With a psycadelic design that makes it instantly recognizable to collectors and released during a year that saw the Oakland Athletics win their first of three (3) straight World Series championships, the 1972 Topps baseball release included a total of 787-cards in its checklist that is loaded with Hall of Fame players, rising stars and aging veterans. Said to resemble concert posters of the era, offered here is this complete set of Topps' 1972 baseball release. Made up of mostly VG-EX to EX cards with many EX range examples strewn throughout as well, the checklist cards are all found in their original unmarked state. Of note, card #4, the checklist card of #'s 1-132, is an O-Pee-Chee made example and NOT a Topps, as is card #142 of Chris Chambliss. For the key cards, included are those of 37-Yastrzemkski (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear), 49-Mays (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear), 50-Mays IA (PR to FR - bottom border and corner wear), 79-Fisk RC (EX to EX-MT), 299-Aaron (FR to G - water damage), 300-Aaron IA (G to VG - corner wear and off-center), 309-Clemente (G to VG - corner wear), 310-Clemente IA (G to VG - corner wear), 420-Carlton (G to VG - corner wear), 433-Bench (PR - creases, corner wear and stains), 435-Jackson (VG - small elastic mark and light corner wear), 441-Munson (GOOD - top border and corner wear), 445-Seaver (VG-EX to EX), 559-Rose (VG to VG-EX - small scuff "dot" on the back plus corner wear), 595-Ryan (VG to VG-EX - corner wear that is heaviest over the top right and bottom left) and 695-Carew (VG-EX to EX - tiny "pressed" dent at the left border). Full of Hall of Famers and Diamond Kings, don't miss out on this one for your all-important baseball collection!
