Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Also still one of the most collectable and collected players in the hobby, offered here is this group of six (6) patch/jersey cards all featuring swatches of memorabilia pertaining to "Mr. Hockey". With the oldest cards found in the form of a 2000-01 Upper Deck Legends "Legendary Game Jersey" offering that includes a piece of WHA All-Star Game jersey worn by Howe in 1979 over the front as well as a trio of cards from the 2000-01 Topps Heritage release that mimic the design of Howe's 1954-55 Topps card and have had swatches of seats from the Olympia in Detroit embedded into their fronts with holograms over the reverses, the rest of the lot includes a 2003-04 Upper Deck Trilogy "Crest of Honor" manufactured patch card referencing Howe's four (4) Stanley Cup championships, and finally, a 2005-06 UD SP Game-Used "Authentic Fabrics - Dual Jersey" card of both Howe and Wayne Gretzky that is numbered "019/100". All highly desirable and found in their original raw ungraded form, all the cards remain in excellent condition with just light wear to the edges, corners and surfaces that is worth noting for accuracy.
