Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Also still one of the most collectable and collected players in the hobby, offered here is this trio of autograph cards all featuring the instantly recognizable signature of Gordie Howe. All sporting images of Howe during his days in the National Hockey League as a member of the Detroit Red Wings, the cards hail from the 2005 Upper Deck Ultimate Signature Edition Hawaii, 2004-05 Upper Deck SP Authentic (a buyback from 2001-02 Upper Deck SPx with a hologram affixed to the reverse that is accompanied by a matching COA) and 2004-05 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection (dual auto/patch with Cam Neely) releases as part of their "Signature Supremacy", "Xcellence Autographs" and "Ultimate Dual Auto Patch" autograph/memorabilia subsets. All having been signed by Howe with blue marker ink signatures that display without issue, each autograph is accompanied by Howe's famed "Mr. Hockey" inscription in matching blue marker ink that shows in the same condition as the autographs themselves. With the "Signature Supremacy" card hand serial numbered "4/5" in the same blue marker ink that the autograph is penned in and the dual auto patch card with Neely serial numbered "2/3" in gold foil, all three (3) cards, highly desirable examples, remain in excellent condition with just light wear to the edges, corners and surfaces that are worth noting for accuracy.
