Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
O-Pee-Chee was back with a 264-card effort for 1986-87 and the Oilers were back on top of the hockey world at season’s end after the Canadiens’ Stanley Cup victory a year earlier. The heroic efforts of playoff MVP Patrick Roy (and his ensuing formidable career) have made Saint Patrick’s rookie card the focal point of OPC’s ’86-87 set, with the example here presenting beautifully over both sides and in the condition range of EX-MT to NM for its effort, with good colours, centering, surfaces and corners all key focal points one would expect from a high-grade example. Found here in near-complete set form with 261 of the 264 cards in the checklist present and accounted for, the group is missing only #'s 142, 248 and 250 for completion. For the remaining 260-cards, the group is found to be in the average condition range of EX-MT to NM throughout while the key cards include the likes of 1-Bourque (EX-MT to NM), 3-Gretzky (EX-MT - extremely small ding to the top left corner), 9-Vanbiesbrouck RC (EX-MT to NM), 11-Yzerman (EX-MT to NM), 122-Lemieux (EX-MT to NM - 2nd year card), 149-Clark RC (EX-MT to NM), 186-Messier (EX-MT to NM), 259-Gretzky (EX-MT to NM - assist leaders) and 260-Gretzky (EX-MT to NM - scoring leaders). With both checklists remaining unmarked and in the condition vicinity of EX-MT to NM as well, the other cards of star players are in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the group.
