Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Also still one of the most collectable and collected players in the hobby, offered here is this trio of autograph cards all featuring the instantly recognizable signature of Gordie Howe. All sporting images of Howe during his days in the National Hockey League as a member of the Detroit Red Wings, the cards hail from the 2002 Upper Deck Toronto Expo, 2002-03 Upper Deck Piece of History and 2002-03 Upper Deck Rookie Update releases as part of their "Signs of Greatness", "Marks of Distinction" and "Top Draws" autograph subsets. All having been signed by Howe with blue marker ink signatures that display without issue, each autograph is accompanied by Howe's famed "Mr. Hockey" inscription in matching blue marker ink that shows in the same condition as the autographs themselves. With the "Signs of Greatness" card hand serial numbered "2/5" in the same blue marker ink that the autograph is penned in, all three (3) cards, highly desirable examples, remain in excellent condition with just light wear to the edges, corners and surfaces that are worth noting for accuracy.
