Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Created with the relocation of the unsuccessful Los Angeles Sharks to the Detroit area following the 1973-74 WHA season, the Michigan Stags lasted a mere 61 games before folding due to financial difficulties in January of 1975 and relocating to Baltimore to become the Blades for the remainder of the season. Finishing their stint in Michigan with a record of 18-40-1, the Stags would play their final game before relocation in Cleveland against the Crusaders on January 18th, 1975 to the tune of a 2-1 loss. Offered here, we present this vintage Michigan Stags WHA jacket that dates to their lone season of 1974-75. Featuring a black nylon exterior with a white cotton interior lining that has yellowed from age, the jacket is void of any brand labeling but displays both size "M" and washing instruction labels affixed to the inner collar. Of note, a small number "10" has been penned over the size tag in blue ballpoint pen ink. Decorated over the left breast of the jacket with a Michigan Stags felt crest that sports chenille details, knitted red and white accents are found at the ends of each sleeve and around the collar while bright red snap buttons make up the closure down the front. Remaining in overall excellent condition, the jacket shows just light wear via a bit of foxing/staining to the cotton layer on the interior and dirtiness to the knitted cuffs/collar.
