Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022, Roberto Luongo would finish his career with 1044 games played and 489 wins, putting him 4th all-time for wins as of this writing. Originally drafted 4th overall by the New York Islanders at the 1997 NHL Entry Draft and going on to play 19-years in the National Hockey League with New York, Florida and Vancouver, Luongo would also represent Team Canada at all levels, winning gold medals at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Winning his first Stanley Cup in 2024 as an executive of the Florida Panthers, offered here is this team-signed stick used by "Bobby Lu" as a member of the Canucks during the 2008-09 season. An RBK Premier Series II model twig with "R. Luongo" stamped to the upper shaft, a production date stamp reading "26 MAR 2008" is stamped on the underside of the shaft near the beginning of the paddle. Retaining its original tape job of white wrapped around the knob as well as over the blade, the stick displays good game-use via numerous puck marks and other abrasions throughout the void-of-tape portion of the shaft, paddle, heel and blade while the blade tape shows a number of puck marks over both sides as well. Also showing a couple of tears to the tape over the blade on the forehand side as well as some wear to the underside of blade tape, the stick also shows some cuts over the forehand side of the heel and paddle, dents from shots to the top edge of the blade and paddle, including one that has resulted in a small crack, and of course, red post paint transfers throughout. Finally, a green coloured paint mark is found on the top edge of the paddle as well.
Regarding the photo-match, the stick has been matched with Getty Image #83408579 and #83408456 (October 21st, 2008 vs Columbus) to the numerous puck marks over the forehand side of the blade tape, the cut over the bottom portion of the heel, and the tear in the tape on the forehand side near the toe.
Also having been signed by approximately eighteen (18) members of the 2008-09 Canucks, those that have signed include; Curtis Sanford, Rob Davison, Willie Mitchell, Kevin Bieksa, Darcy Hordichuk, Ryan Kesler, Daniel and Henrik Sedin, Roberto Luongo and Alexandre Burrows and others. All having signed in black marker ink, most display without issue and remain perfectly legible.
