Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
A product of the Ontario Hockey League's Peterborough Petes, playing the entirety of his Major Junior career in their maroon and white colours, Kay Whitmore would hear his name called 26th overall by the Hartford Whalers at the 1985 NHL Entry Draft and go on to play a total of 155 games in the National Hockey League over the course of his career, enjoying time in Hartford, Vancouver, Boston and Calgary. Hailing from the 1990-91 season, we offer this Whalers jersey worn by Whitmore. A one-year style heavyweight mesh construction garment made by CCM, a lone CCM label that has had Whitmore's number "35" penned to it in black marker ink is affixed to the inner collar while both the CCM and NHL shield logos have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a familiar Whalers logo in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso of the jersey have had Whitmore's number "35" sewn to them in dual layer green-over-blue tackle twill numerals while "Whitmore" has been spelt out in matching style letters that have been affixed down directly to the material of the jersey at the top of the reverse. Retaining its original fight strap on the interior and accompanied by a Byron's HockeyLand LOA, the piece shows just overall light game-wear in the form of puck marks that are observed over the front and right sleeve while very light salting exists in the fight strap as well.
