Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Combining to play a total of 1284 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins over the course of their careers, totaling out to 31 years in the National Hockey League, netminders Marc-Andre Fleury, Matt Murray, Gilles Meloche and Denis Herron would tend the twine in a way that resulted in three (3) Stanley Cup championships during their time with the Steel City based club. Offered here, we present this quartet of Penguins jerseys signed individually by all the goalies listed above. All pro-stock Reebok made offerings that feature pro on-ice elements such as reinforced elbows and fight straps on their interiors, each jersey is a throwback model black and yellow coloured offering that was reintroduced to Pittsburgh's rotation for the 2014-15 season after being retired via rebrand in 1992. All having had both "Goalie Style" and size "58" labels affixed to their inner collars, each jersey is decorated over the front with a Penguins team crest that features embroidered details while the front and reverse necklines have all been accented with the logo crests of the NHL shield and Reebok respectively. Having had each respective goalie's number sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual layer tackle twill numerals and their names spelt out in single layer yellow twill letters across the affixed matching nameplates at the tops of the reverses, it is important to note that the included jersey of Matt Murray also features the NHL Centennial patch over the right sleeve, the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals patch over the right breast and the Penguins 50th Anniversary patch over the left shoulder. All having been signed by the represented goalies over the numbers on the reverses with black marker ink signatures, the autographs all display in excellent condition overall with just light bleeding observed, heaviest on the example of Herron, which also includes an inscription that appears to read "To Thomas, Best Wishes" in matching ink and condition. With all the jerseys also remaining in excellent condition overall with no unsightly flaws to make mention of except for a couple of small marks and fabric snags, it is worth pointing out that Penguins team tags have been sewn over the inside of all four (4) reverse hems, with the Fleury tag denoting it as a "2014-2015 Throwback Jersey" and the tags of the Meloche and Herron denoting those as "Vintage Series - Pittsburgh Penguins - Goaltender" and then their name. Of note, the Murray jersey has also had team tags sewn inside the reverse hem, one for each playoff series that season as well as a larger one that reads "Stanley Cup Final - Authentic Game Jersey - 2017".
