Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
The first of two (2) Canadian Football League trading card sets released by the cereal company Post, the cards measure the standard size and were issued on the backs of boxes of Post Cereals distributed in Canada. Not available directly from the company via a send-in offer as with other Post Cereal issues, the set featured a total of 137 cards in all and includes short-printed and more limited examples in its checklist, with many of the desirable "SP" offerings sporting white coloured backs instead of the typically seen brown. Released in a year that saw the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for the 50th Grey Cup offered here is lot consisting of eight (8) uncut cereal box backs/panels (3 different variations) that all feature seven (7) cards each from the 1962 Post CFL release. Totaling out to fifty-six (56) cards in all, there are three (3) different panels included in the lot with the better names featured being Bernie Faloney, Jackie Parker and Dick Shatto. Of note, all the Parker cards show creases, one (1) of the Shatto cards shows a crease while another displays with stains and then two (2) of the Faloney cards are creased also. With all of the panels sporting at least one (1) crease that is worth mentioning for accuracy, mostly over the notable cards mentioned above or along the edges, the lot also includes seven (7) lower grade box front cards from 1963 (Shatto, Dixon x2, Ploen x2 and Jackson x2) that display defects like creases, pen marks, corner wear and staining, the final three (3) cards present are from the regular 1963 set (Lunsford x2 and Gray) that remain free of creases but display with either toning and corner wear or rough cut edges as well.
