Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Joining his famous brother as an NHL superstar beginning in the 1968-69 season as a member of the Stanley Cup-champion Montreal Canadiens, goaltender Tony Esposito was claimed on waivers by the Chicago Black Hawks the following season where he earned the coveted Calder Memorial Trophy. Tony O would guard the “Madhouse on Madison” crease for his entire career, appearing in six All-Star Games while securing a trio of Vezina trophies. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988, offered here, we present this copy of Tony's 1969-70 O-Pee-Chee rookie card that has been signed by the legend. Found at "138 in the checklist and featuring a posed image of Tony over the front, Esposito's familiar signature has been penned over the front of the card in blue marker ink that displays without issue while an "HOF 1988" inscription is found underneath in matching ink. With the signature deemed to be "authentic" by Beckett and assessed a mark of "10", it needs to be noted that the card itself has not been graded, only the autograph. Showing heavy wear including creases plus corner, edge and surface wear, the card is housed in a Beckett holder that remains in overall excellent condition.
