The only league in the past century seen as serious competition to the NHL, the WHA operated from 1972-79, with their lasting legacy being the four expansion teams that joined the NHL in 1979. Offered here, and hailing from the personal collection of former World Hockey Association and National Hockey League referee Ron Fournier, is this collection of fifty (50) WHA game pucks dating from 1972 to 1979. Included, we have nine (9) 1975-78 Biltrite large crest/small WHA logo pucks (Cowboys and Racers), one (1) 1974-75 Biltrite small crest/small WHA logo puck (Aeros), three (3) 1972-78 Biltrite blank reverse pucks (Oilers), seven (7) Biltrite B3 InGlasCo reverse pucks (Nordiques - white outer ring, Racers, Jets - both variations, Oilers), one (1) 1979 Biltrite B3 blank reverse puck (1979 WHA All-Star Games), one (1) 1972-77 Viceroy V3 rubber front/alternate WHA logo reverse puck (Bulls), eight (8) 1975-76 Art Ross blank reverse pucks (Roadrunners, Whalers, Aeroes), three (3) Art Ross Pro Reverse pucks (Minnesota - both variations), one (1) 1974-75 CCM CCM3 small orange WHA reverse puck (Roadrunners), one 1975-79 Viceroy blank reverse puck (Stingers), seven (7) 1975-79 Viceroy WHA/viceroy reverse pucks (Bulls - two variations), one (1) 1974-75 Czechoslovakia WHA reverse (Stags), four (4) 1975-76 Czechoslovakia CZ2 gold reverse pucks (Mariners and Crusaders) and finally, three (3) 1975-76 Czechoslovakia CZ3 gold reverse pucks (Mariners). With the group mostly presentable and with okay condition logos, some show more wear to the logos than other, including a couple where it is mostly worn off on either the front/reverse or both while majority show varying amounts of dirtiness as well. Additionally, the pucks themselves are all mostly in good condition with surface/edge wear present throughout the group as well as one example that has a couple small chunks missing from the edge of one of its faces. Hailing from Fournier's personal collection, a Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the piece.
