Appearing in more National Hockey League games than "Mr. Hockey", Gordie Howe, in his twenty-two year career wearing the stripes as an NHL linesman, Neil Armstrong would enforce the rules of the game in a total of 1744 contests between 1957 and 1978, appearing in ten (10) National Hockey League All-Star Games as well as a remarkable eighteen (18) consecutive years in the Stanley Cup Final from 1960 to 1977. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder in 1991 and serving as a scout with the Montreal Canadiens for twenty (20) years after retiring, offered here is this NHL linesman jersey worn by Armstrong in the era of the early-to-mid-1970s. A traditional black-and-white striped quarter-zip style offering made by Gerry Cosby's of New York, the company's familiar label is affixed to the inner collar while the wool construction collared shirt measures out to just shy of a modern size "44". Having had an NHL shield crest that displays with embroidered details sewn on over the left breast, the zipper over the front remains functional and in place. Accented over the reverse with a dual layer orange-over-white tackle twill number "8" that is sewn on over top of an also sewn on black twill circle in the center of the back, the garment remains in overall good condition with some spot staining over the upper front, small holes over the lower front and both sleeves plus scratches/scuffs in the twill layers on the reverse. Hailing from the personal collection of former NHL official Ron Fournier, who received the jersey directly from Armstrong himself, a Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the piece.
