Making his Olympic debut with Team Sweden at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, New York that is best remembered for the game that was immediately dubbed "The Miracle on Ice" between the United States of America and Soviet Union, Mats Naslund would post ten (10) points in seven (7) games played, including an assist in the club's final game against the Soviet's, as Sweden would capture the tournament's bronze medal. Offered here, and hailing from his personal collection, is this Olympic bronze medal awarded to Naslund at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, New York. Measuring 80mm in diameter and a quarter inch thick while weighting in at 180 grams, the medal was designed by Tiffany and Co. and then minted by Medalic Art Co. Decorated over the obverse with an inscribed "XIII Olympic Winter Games", a raised hand holding the Olympic torch appears against a mountain background while the Olympic rings appear over the right side as well. On the reverse, inscribed with “Lake Placid 1980,” and featuring a small Lake Placid Games emblem plus a large pine branch with cones, "Ice Hockey - Mats Naslund" appears engraved below that while "Tiffany & Co., Bronze, 1979" appears engraved along the bottom edge. Missing its original blue and white coloured ribbon as well as the suspension at the top of the medal, the piece remains in overall excellent condition and sports just some light scratches and scuffs to the surfaces and edge that is worth pointing out for accuracy, as well as a ding to the edge at 2 o'clock on the reverse. An LOA signed by Naslund will accompany the piece.
