Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
His name appearing on the Stanley Cup eight times, legendary hockey guru Conn Smythe is best remembered as the principal owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs for almost 35 years, from 1927 to 1961. Enshrined in the HOF as a builder in 1958, we offer a pair of vintage 1930s/40s Leafs documents signed by the World Wars veteran. First, we have a Uniform Agreement for Norman Mann dated January of 1935, with Smythe signing along the bottom in fountain pen (very minor fading to the signature), along with a few other signatures. This is followed by a Standard Assignment Agreement for John Arundel dated March 7, 1949, signed by Smythe along the bottom in blue ink, with the signature flawless. Both document exhibit just light toning along edges. Additionally, two typed letters dated 1949 for John Arundel are also included, along with a 1944 telegram sent by Hap Day to NHL president Red Dutton also regarding John Arundel.
